Austinn Says: Hats Off

Just saw ‘The Founder’: Love at First Bite. conclusion: 8/10. Ray Kroc’s story is an incredible one, with some similarities to the story behind Facebook. For me, Dick and Mac McDonald’s characters and their story were the highlight of the film. The parts of the movie that focused more on personal relationships seemed a little out of place and became boring. Otherwise, aside from the fact that it’s a pretty sad and ruthless story, I thought it was well done. Also, the score was fantastic (top 5 for the year). #shakeitup #wouldyoulikefranchisewiththat #greedyservice #hamburglar #thenameaboveallchains #ioncewaslostbutnowiamFounder

I’m very mixed about this movie. On one hand, it was really cool to hear the story of McDonalds and Ray Kroc. Many of us have grown up eating there and never really knew the back story to how this place blew up. On the other hand, it was very slow at times and lacked emotion. I felt a little bored at times. It also progressed through the story very quickly at times. Not sure how it’s possible to be both slow and skipping through the story too quickly, but that’s how it felt. It was very hard to tell how much time went by from scene to scene, with each scene moving slowly. Kinda strange. Keaton and his cast performed pretty well, although his portrayal of Kroc felt forced at times. But, it he did a fine job overall. I went back and forth on this one for a bit, but for now, the hats stays on! But I encourage people to see it for the story and see if they take to it better than I did.

Kelvin Kept His Hat On:

“The Founder: Brand of Opportunity.” Conclusion: 6/10. It’s an interesting enough story but I think the execution was just OK. Some of the characters were awkwardly written and I wasn’t fully able to buy that these were representations of actual people. It’s a bit slow as well and probably could have been a good 30 minutes shorter. While I enjoyed the score, I also found it a bit on-the-nose and distracting at times. Michael Keaton continues to give excellent performances and I appreciated the folksy demeanor he brought to his character. Adequate, if not a bit unremarkable. #LostAndFounder #Scamburger #HostileShakeover #Capitalschism #ButImNotAWrapper #OhBrother
