Kelvin Says Hats On:
Just saw “Marshall: Law Law Land.” Conclusion: 5/10. Thurgood Marshall is certainly one of the most important figures in American legal history. I was a bit surprised that a movie bearing his surname as the title didn’t really seem to be about him. Chadwick Boseman has a fine performance with the material he’s given – I just don’t find the material to be that provocative. Josh Gad’s character, the lawyer Sam Friedman, I would argue is more so the subject of the movie. He is the one who has a narrative arc, whereas Thurgood Marshall is there to say all the right things at the right times to inspire his change. Furthermore, I’d add that of all the cases or events pertaining to Thurgood Marshall, picking one where a woman is lying about being raped doesn’t seem to be in particularly good taste currently. However, I would say most of the courtroom scenes work fine and can be entertaining. I just think it’s a shame that such a consequential historical figure is given such a mediocre movie. #CourtMarshall #LitigatorsGonnaLitigate #SocialiteWeight #SpellBound #SayItAgainSam #ConnectAquit
