The Killing of a Sacred Deer (0/1 Hats)

Kelvin Says Hats On:

Just saw “The Killing of a Sacred Deer: Fall in the Family.” Conclusion: 5/10. Basically, Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell play as husband and wife doctors in an Old Testament-like revenge story. The movie ratchets up the surrealism and is psychologically disturbing. Unfortunately, I didn’t think there was much of a foundation for anything that was happening. It feels like an exercise in film-making rather than a providing of commentary or a story. I couldn’t really find an underpinning. A better movie would have taken some of the ideas and motivations behind the characters and fleshed out some existential or moral questions behind them. That’s fairly absent here. While I really appreciate how the film was put together – it messes with the mind in every sense – there isn’t much there besides that. The camera angles and music are harrowing and the dialogue elicits quite a bit of unease. I just wish there would have been more of a payoff for how well the movie gets into your mind. #MalpracticeMakesPerfect #WhatAboutBob #Sincinnati #KimPossibleRecovery #JustGettingEvenSteven #TheMartin #MurphysLaw
