Downsizing (0/2 Hats)

Austinn Says Hats On:

Just saw ‘Downsizing’: Don’t Get Short with Me. Conclusion: 4/10. Very weird and not what I was expecting. The beginning is very charming and intriguing, but as the movie progresses, it loses its way and the plot never feels like it amounts to anything important. None of the characters are all that likable, and the message of the film is sometimes muddled by the decisions the characters make. I was a bit disappointed. It felt like they had an interesting idea for a movie, but didn’t know which direction to take it. Also, the song Once in a Lifetime by the Talking Heads was nowhere to be heard. #littletroublethere #smalltalk #thebigshort #honeyIshrunkmyself #weetennis #minutetowinit #littlepeoplebigworld

Kelvin Says Hats On:

Just saw “Downsizing: Leave It to Leisure.” Conclusion: 2/10. I’ll start with this: If you take the first ten minutes, the middle ten minutes, and the last ten minutes of this movie, there is absolutely no way of telling that they all belong to the same movie. It is a confusing mess. No one in this movie gives a good performance and it seems like they’re all aware of how terrible this thing is going to be when put together. Make no mistake, there are almost no redeeming qualities. Matt Damon and Christoph Waltz are thoroughly unenjoyable and agonizingly lifeless. A bad movie can sometimes be saved by a charismatic performance but that’s not an issue here. The characters are all perfectly grating. What’s more, the movie progressively gets worse. It starts out fine and the world building they do, so to speak, is interesting enough. The problem is that they have no idea what story they want to tell. I cannot pick out one discernible, arching theme from this movie. There are plot threads littered throughout and nothing to connect them. The movie plays much more like an embodiment of a writer’s room idea board. It’s bizarrely watchable in this sense. I guess I can give it that much. #NorwayOrTheHighway #MyWifeLeftMe #LanLine #Shrinkage #PaulInTheFamily #ItsASmallWorldAfterAll
