Kelvin Says Hats On:

Just saw “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” – Glader Aid. Conclusion: 4/10. The young-adult movie genre has grown rather stale since The Hunger Games series wrapped up. Most everything that has followed suit, attempting to hit the same notes, has been cheap imitation. The first installment in this trilogy was fine enough, but the series has never aspired to anything better. While certainly an improvement upon the last one, this final film is still quite uninspired. There’s nothing off-putting, per se, but it feels safe and completely formulaic in its structure. Perhaps that could be forgiven if the characters or themes had something interesting to offer. Predictably, that is not the case and any deeper themes the movie hints at are purely accidental. The romantic overtones that are present are purely convenient plot points and nothing about the characters is paid much mind to. People are just mechanisms to move the story along. Not all the story is for naught – the opening action sequence works pretty well – but many of the moments meant to be affecting are instead misfires. The series had to end somehow, but this was about as enthralling as a maze on a children’s menu. #MazedAndConfused #PaigeTurner #SharksAndMinho #PoutingThomas #NewWCKDonTheBlock

‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’: No Rest for the WCKD (5/10)

Probably the cheesiest movie of all-time. It’s amazing how the good guys are so resilient to dying or even getting hurt, and how the bad guys have such terrible aim and like to monologue for an hour before trying to kill someone. The plot is mostly dumb, and for the most part the characters are very one-dimensional. The writing is really bad and the acting is pretty bad too (or at least it seems bad because of the writing). The reason this movie isn’t actually terrible is because although the plot is dumb, it stays pretty engaging and interesting throughout. There are also some cool sequences, and the production design is top notch; the world-building and special effects make for a stunning visual experience. #movethatbus #raceforthecure #Flaretactics #MazeRunner2049 #CrisiswiththeCranks #WCKDisgreatbecauseWCKDisgood
