Game Night (2/2 Hats)

Kelvin Says Hats Off:

Just saw “Game Night” – Perverse Charades. Conclusion: 7/10. As far as farces go, there’s the usual amount of over-the-top humor and ridiculousness, but it’s able to stick enough of its landings for it to work. The plot is simple enough: a kidnap-mystery game night gone wrong … or has it? The twists and turns the story takes are entertaining for the most part, and the characters are generally likable. The three couples making up the main characters each have a decent running gag between them. Rachel McAdams has long been a favorite of mine and she brings her usual affability to this movie. Two people I usually don’t like, Jason Bateman and Kyle Chandler, were fine and I didn’t mind them – which is about as large of a compliment as I can grant either of them. The visuals and score complement the film’s gamey theme. It’s really one of those movies where if you can buy into the premise enough, it is actually pretty fun. #DeathlyHilarious #TicketToHide #GameOfLifeAndDeath #McAdamsAppleToApples #MadMax #AClueToAKill #BrooksBrother

Austinn Says Hats Off:

‘Game Night’: Sorry, Not Sorry (8/10)

Good comedies are not easy to come by these days, but this one is truly hilarious. While the premise of the movie is quite ridiculous, the technical aspects of the movie are spot on. It’s competently directed, the score is fantastic, and the cinematography has some stellar moments. Most importantly though, it really is hilarious throughout, with only a couple jokes falling flat and one character I found to be somewhat annoying. I’ve come to love Jason Bateman and his performance here is comedic gold. #Anniewiththeguninthestoragecloset #strangerthanpictionary #trivialpursuits #jengaunchained #riskyourlife #guardsagainsthumanity #scrabbledeggs #donthatetheplayerhatethegame #forkidnappers10andup #posttraumaticchessdisorder #getoutofjailonparolecard
