Kelvin Says Hats Off:

Just saw “Wont You Be My Neighbor?” – Dawn of the Fred. Conclusion: 9/10. Like so many others, “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” was a staple of my childhood. As the movie poignantly points out, his voice was a unique and unrivaled one on television. It’s a voice that feels so distant from the space we now occupy. Looking at the man who shaped many a childhood, his childlike love and the inherent value he saw in every child and person’s life seems only to be a growing contrast with society now. However, it’s not a cheap yearning that the movie creates. It documents how perfect Fred Rogers was at being able to relate difficult and often uncomfortable topics to children to speak to them about the world. The message was always one that centered around love, value, kindness, and dignity – virtues that certainly were cornerstones of his spirituality. But the movie never turns a cynical eye at the world today – something that frankly isn’t very hard. Instead, it chooses to believe that there are more Mr. Rogers out in the world than we care to admit. With the introspection that it invites towards the end, it’s an idea that becomes a little bit easier to believe. I don’t recall the word empathy being uttered once during the film, but it’s clear that few places has it better been displayed than in Mister Rogers’ life, and yes, neighborhood. #TheNeighborhoodLifeChoseMe #RogerThat #WhenLifeGivesYouClemmons #SeenSweaterDays #MakeBelieveItOrNot #TelevisionImpossible

Austinn Says Hats Off:

‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor’: Fred for Ed (8/10)

This documentary looks at the life of Fred Rogers and his show, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. It is really well edited and the interviews provide great insight into Fred’s life and legacy. He is such an amazingly inspiring person and he was such a Christ-like example for people in the way he viewed and treated others, especially children. It is an emotional and fascinating film, and I highly recommend it to everyone. #toyzinthehood #showofgoodfaith #theoryofspecialrelativity #theshoemustgoon #daaamndanieltiger #theheroweneedrightnow
