The Old Man and the Gun (1/1 Hats)

Kelvin Says Hats Off:

Just saw “The Old Man and the Gun” – Man of Steal. Conclusion: 8/10. Based off the life of Forrest Tucker, a man who robbed banks well into the twilight of his life, Robert Redford has as much charm and warmth as ever. His character is noted for his calm and happy demeanor, even while in the middle of a heist. Watching Redford so effortlessly embody this syrupy folksiness, it is difficult to not be lulled into a similar place. His character seems driven not by greed but by the fact it’s simply all he knows. The movie’s not a look at some larger, overarching theme so much as it’s heartfelt musings. The mellowness and humor keep it fresh. Indeed, it is quite funny, thanks in large part to the interactions between Redford’s character and those played by Casey Affleck and Sissy Spacek – a jaded cop on Tucker’s case and Tucker’s conflicted love interest. The ambiance too ties so much of it together. A melodic score and crafty editing drive home the film’s soul. The combination of it all works together in a rather refreshing harmony. #RobberRedford #RunForrestRun #TexasHoldUp #BankMeLater #OldYourHorses
